Game Night ( v. St. Louis Blues )

Julia's POV                          clumsy/fergie

I'm getting a bit nervous now, as I walk into the United Center to start my new job. Wearing a simple white button down shirt paired with a pair of dark wash skinny jeans and red flats. I hope that this outfit is okay, just realizing that I'm wearing the team's colours.

Walking through those doors though, I feel my heart begin to race. I know that I probably won't be running into either of them tonight, but just being so close, in the same building.

Now I’m just hoping my heart can take it.

I quickly check my phone to see if I had any missed calls, or voicemails. A bit sad, and yet a bit relieved that there were none. I quickly shut off my phone. I can't screw up this job over my phone ringing in my pocket while I'm working my first night on the job.

When I reach the restaurant I notice it's starting to look like it's going to be a busy shift. I walk up to the to the woman that was buzzing around getting guests seated, and writing and erasing on a map of the table layout.

"Hi." I say bit quietly, being nervous like I always am when I start a new job.

"Do you have a reservation?" the girl asks me, not looking up the table layout map.

"Uh... no. I start work here tonight."

"Oh!" she quickly looks up at me. "Sorry. Hi. My name is Marissa. You must be the new waitress they just hired."

"Uh, yeah, that would be me. My name's Julia."

"Nice to meet you." she holds her hand out to shake mine, "Tina, here, will be working with you tonight and as well as the next couple shifts you have. You know, just to help you get the feel of the place."

"Okay sounds good." I turn to Tina, "So where do I start?"

From there, it was the start of a busy night. Everything seemed to be going quite well. I'm picking up on everything quickly, although I never been a waitress before in my life. It wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be. It is a great, fast-pace environment, that I enjoy. All the workers are friendly and helpful. I was so surprised at how busy it got, considering, from what I could hear, the game is a good one. Right now we're in the first few minutes of the second period and the score is 3 - 1 Hawks.

Time is just flying by now and I hear the game is in the last seconds of the third and the score is now 7 - 5 Hawks. Next I'm hearing the players who are the 3 stars of tonight's game.

Tomas Kopecky is 3rd, Patrick Sharp is 2nd, and Patrick Kane is the 1st star.

The game is over, the restaurant is starting to empty out, and Tina told me it was alright for me to leave a bit early tonight, since it was my first night but I would be working until closing on my next shift, this Friday.

As I'm leaving the arena, making my way to the nearest bus stop, I turn on my phone and check to see if I had any calls. Nothing. Well I guess I shouldn't be too surprised since they are both young hockey players, thus they are the two most wanted guys in Chicago.

I get to the bus stop and wait. Pacing around the bus stop for a few minutes, before I decide to check the bus schedule, only find that the bus I was waiting for, had passed by just before I got there and the next one is not coming for another 40 minutes.

Lovely, that's just fantastic! I hate standing in the bus stop all alone in the dark, it's a bit scary. As I stand there though, waiting, hoping the time will just magically fast forward, my phone begins to ring, giving me a slight jolt.

I begin to rummage through my purse for my phone, luckily I find it in good time to have a quick look at the caller id - just taking a quick glance over - noticing the name is of a one of the hockey players I met the other day, and my finger automatically pressed talk before it actually registered about which one it actually is.

"Hi." feeling all excited.

"Hey. How come are you standing around in the dark?" the voice on the other end having a more of a lisp to his deep voice.

A little deflated, leaving me silent, about hearing Patrick's voice instead of Jonathan's, Patrick speaks up again.

"I'm in the truck that just pulled up to the curb before the bus stop."

"Patrick, right?" I ask like I really don't know who it is.

"Who else would it be?" sounding a bit confused.

For that split second I was at a loss for an answer, but managed to come up with, "Uh... nobody. I just didn't expect to hear from you this soon. I thought you'd be too busy to call me."

"Well..." he inches his truck, along the curb, a bit closer to the bus stop towards me as he continues, "I am busy, but right now it looks as though you're in need of a ride?" now stopping his truck about a foot away from the stop, he gets out of his truck, still with his phone against his ear.

He gives me one of his adorable smiles, "So... would you like that ride?"

"Sure."

Where is the harm in that... right?

"Okay, just let me open the door for you." he shuts off his phone, shoving it into his pocket and walks around to the passenger side door and opens the it for me. I make my way towards him and step into his truck. He closes the door and runs back around to the driver's side and takes off.

Doing nothing more that occasionally glancing at each other, this silence didn't seem awkward like silences normally are. But this moment doesn't feel as though it needs any words. This silence is unusually comfortable.

As he continues driving on, I'm not really paying attention to where he was taking me, we soon ended up going down into an underground parking space. Still not really cluing in that I never told him where I live, he parks in a stall numbered 33J. Everything then just clicked.

He's taken me back to his place...

Normally any other girl would be ecstatic with not only just getting a ride with Patrick Kane, but getting a ride with him back to his place. The thing is though, I'm not like those other girls.

He exits his truck, comes around to my side, and opens the door for me, holding out a hand for me. I take his hand, getting out saying nothing more than a quiet thank you, and we walk to the elevator still in silence. As we are going up, I'm so nervous that I can't make look at him, although I can feel him staring at me, but as soon as I have the might to turn to look at him, he sheepishly looks away.

We have finally reached the floor where his place is and my heart, this time takes a leap leaving me breathless. We reach his door, he unlocks the deadbolt, and gestures to me to walk in. We take off our shoes and he shows me his hand again, this time to take my coat, so he could hang it up in the closet.

We walk into the kitchen, off the entrance he asks, "You want something to eat or drink?" he paused waiting for a reply from me. When I fell silent he continued on, "I have beer, soda and..." rummaging through his fridge, "actually if you want something to eat, I'd have to order some delivery."

I'm still silent, while I'm trying to catch my breath.

"Are you hungry? I could order Chinese... pizza...?"

"You know what? Pizza does sound good right about now."

"Your right." as he looks back over his shoulder at me. "So would you like a beer then?"

"Nothing else goes better with a slice of pizza, than a beer."

"Just what I was thinking." he grabs us both a beer, opens them, and leads me to the couch, grabbing a phone on the way. He motions for me to sit down, he dials a number to order our pizza.

"What would you like? I'm not picky."

"How about a meat lover's?"

"Good choice." he eagerly agrees. "Yeah hey, could I order a meat lover's pizza?" he looks back at me before communicating again with the person on the other end of the line.

As he is still talking on his phone, mine begins to ring. I look down at the caller i.d., it's Jonathan calling.

Fuck! What do I do now? I'm at Patrick's, having a beer and there is a pizza getting delivered, I want to answer my phone, but how?

Panicking, I mouth to him that I need to step out for a second. Once I was out on the other side of the door, I managed to answer just before it went to voicemail.

"Hey!" I excitedly whisper.

"Hi." he sounds a little surprised that I answered.

"How's it going?"

"I... uh... good. And you?"

"I'm good. What's up?"

"Um... I just thought I'd call and see if you were up to get a coffee tomorrow."

I never heard him so nervous, it was actually quite cute.

"You know, since I said I'd take you out. Oh... you know, I mean for coffee." he quickly adds, making me giggle a little.

"Sure. I'd love to. Where should me meet?"

"How about I stop by your place and pick you up?"

"I, um..." looking back and forth between the elevator and the door behind me. "How about I just meet you at a Starbucks or something."

"Sure... but if you don't mind me by asking, why are you whispering?"

"Um... I actually live with a friend of mine right now and she just went to bed.."

"Oh, okay, I'll let you go. So meet you'll me at the Starbucks at 600 Grand Ave E? At the Navy Pier? Does ten sound good?"

"The sounds perfect."

"Good, see you then."

"See you then."

Just as I ended my conversation with Jonathan, I turned back to the door and there is Patrick just opening it.

"The pizza is on it's way."

"Good."

"The guy said it would be about 2o minutes."

"That's great."

"Why are we standing outside?"

"I don't know, but let's go inside and wait for the pizza in there then, shall we?" sliding myself by him through the small gap between him and the door frame, my chest brushing up against his arm. Without a word from him, he follows right behind me back to the couch. There we sat, side by side, drinking our beer, waiting for the pizza.

"Let's turn on some music, huh?"

"Yeah, why not?"

Taking his last swig of beer, "How's your beer? Need a refill?"

"Sure." downing the last little bit of mine.

"So how about you choose the tunes and I'll go get us those beers."

I nod, then get up and head towards the stereo and he gets up and heads into the kitchen for the drinks. Once I chose a playlist to play, he comes in with the beers in hand.

"There you are."

"Thank you."

"I'll be right back, I'd just like to change out of this suit, if you don't mind."

"Sure, that fine. You may as well be comfortable."

As soon as he's out of the room, there's a knock on the door.

"Could you please get that? That's probably Marty with the pizza. And the money is on that side table in the entrance."

I make my way to the door, give Marty the money and thank him for the pizza, but just as I turn around, he almost ended up wearing it.

"Whoa there," he takes the pizza from my hands, places it aside, turns back and our eyes locked in onto each other. We were in so close, almost touching. Next thing I knew his lips were on mine, then I was suddenly sitting on the table with him standing between my thighs, his hands found his way under my shirt.

As our lips part, both trying to catch our breath, "Too fast." I quickly blurt out. Seeing a hint of pain in his face, I try to make a good recovery by saying, "It's not that... That wasn't... you know, good." still trying to catch my breath, "Patrick, it's just that we only just met each other. I'm not one who jumps the gun this quick."

"No, I understand. I respect that." he lifts me down from the table top.

"You know, I think it time for me to call a taxi and head home." I barely make my way past him as gently grabs for my arm.

"Julia, why don't you just stay here for the night. I have a spare bedroom you could sleep in."

"I have nothing to sleep in."

"I have a t-shirt and some shorts you can use."

"I don't have a tooth brush."

"I have a spare one that I just bought the other day. I was going to get rid of my old one, but I just never got around to it yet."

He really wants me to spend the night. I stand there now trying to think of another excuse to leave, but he pulls a face I couldn't resist.

"I'd feel much better about you spending the night here than taking a taxi alone at this time of night."

Like putty in his hands I cave in.

"Sure, why not. Couldn't hurt."

"Okay, good. Now that that is settled, are you still up for some pizza, or should I show you where you're going to sleep and grab that stuff for you?"

"Sorry, but I'm just not hungry anymore."

He nods his head and motions for me to follow him. As we reach the room, he leaves me there to fetch the clothes and the toothbrush. I feel a pang of guilt for staying, but he just wouldn't take no for an answer.

When he comes back, he hands over to me a neatly folded Hawks t-shirt and black shorts with a drawstring and a toothbrush with some toothpaste on top.

"The guest bathroom is just right in that corner of the room. You have your own shower and everything is in there."

"Thank you. This is very nice of you." rolling up onto my toes to give him a kiss on the cheek.

He opens his mouth to say something, but he quickly decides against it. He just takes a small step toward me and gives me a kiss on the forehead, whispering to me to have a good night then leaves the room, closing the door behind him.

Just then after he leaves me alone in his guest bedroom, something changed. I soon thought after he brought me back to his place tonight, I wanted to see more of Jonathan instead because of the word of mouth of him being a lady's man. But after that gesture of him respecting my space, and him caring about my safety if I were to leave and take a taxi home, that did it.

Could this be though? Could it really be that Patrick Kane is actually changing his ways? I guess only time will tell.
